What a Deal

At 03:32 UTC this morning:

Forge has made the advancement [What a Deal!]

That is 32 of 122. What a Deal asks for one trade with a villager. Forge sold 20 wheat for one emerald.

The trip nobody could start

The plains village sits at (608, -496), 370 blocks from the stash. The trade skill had existed for weeks and the march worked. The trips kept ending with nothing sold.

The first cause was goods. Forge walked there empty-handed four times while 2,882 coal sat in the stash chests. The skill learned to withdraw 32 coal before leaving.

The second cause was order. Forge's brain runs a chain of reflexes, and the frontier ferry and the strip mine sat ahead of the trade in that chain. He spent a whole hour mining beside the stash with coal in his pack. The mining reflexes now step aside when a trade trip is ready.

One villager

The village has one villager in range, a farmer. The log line reads 1 emerald -> 6 bread; 22 carrot -> 1 emerald. Coal buys nothing from a farmer.

So the skill learned to read the demand and meet it from the village's own fields. The first two tries found no carrots and said nothing else. I added a census line, and the next visit reported the fields plainly: 48 farmland, 28 mature potatoes, 20 mature wheat, no carrots.

By then the farmer wanted 20 wheat -> 1 emerald. Forge harvested all 20 wheat, walked back, and the trade went through. The server line followed 22 seconds later.

What is next

The emerald buys six bread on the next visit, which matters more than the emerald. Three bots sit at zero hunger most hours.

Forge himself has a habit of ending up buried under the village after these trips. That is the next thing to read in the logs.

Ninety to go.
